WoW Forever City of Dalaran Guide
Entrance, preparation, route, boss tactics and quest planning for City of Dalaran.
Official recommended band: 28–33 · Five players · Alterac Mountains; sewer access
Entrance and access
Alliance begin with Emissary Jacques in Southshore and An Alarming Request, leading to Modera. Horde begin with Magus Wordeen Voidglare in Tarren Mill. The sewer is the dungeon approach; open-world Dalaran remains dangerous. Only one Horde party member needs the sewer key to open the gate.
Before you go
For Horde, accept Prison Break-In and Key to the City, recover the requested artifacts and Grimy Key, then complete Dalaran Patrols (6 Summoners and 12 Elemental Slaves). Deliver Blood in the Streets to the Image of Archmage Modera. This unlocks Heart of Disruption and the sewer key. Prepare non-arcane damage, magic and curse dispels, and a plan for the optional Lyn encounter.
Route checklist
- Start in the sewers and defeat Atrexis. If bringing the Tome of Dalaran for Lyn, use the straight sewer branch after Atrexis rather than immediately turning toward the surface.
- The city branches. Agree which quest bosses and collection areas the group needs before splitting off into side areas.
- Clear nearby trash before each city boss. Fel Ancient is accessible without killing all the earlier bosses.
- Finish with Shade of the Archmage. Keep him inside his room and check all collection objectives before leaving.
Dangerous trash
Many enemies resist the party’s usual plan by being arcane immune. Mana Phantoms burn mana and deserve interrupts or early focus. Saturated Remnants leave a mana-restoring area on death. Let the tank establish control before using area damage on newly spawned skeletons or Manalings.
Boss tactics
Atrexis
Secure skeleton adds before area damage. Expect physical bursts; a shield, disarm and defensive cooldowns help the tank.
Arcane Anomaly
Move with the rotating Focal Blast rather than crossing its beam. Stay within the platform circle to avoid extra enemies around the edge.
Arcanic Enigma
Kill the two Mana Phantoms first. Dispel Manamorph, keep the healer outside the silence area, and control the smaller adds.
Unstable Sentinel
Remove nearby Angry Tomes before pulling. During Malfunction, move beyond 25 yards; melee need time to leave before the blast.
Mana Devourer
Clear surrounding enemies first. Mana drain makes a long fight dangerous; enter with resources and use damage cooldowns deliberately. Do not rely on arcane damage.
Fel Ancient
Move out of Fel Timbers. If Entangle traps someone in the ground effect, use an available root break or freedom effect.
Lyn the Ignored (optional)
Bring the Black Tome from Arugal’s desk after Shadowfang Keep. Use it at the Ambermill Leyline Focus to obtain the Tome of Dalaran, then use that at the purple sewer rune after Atrexis. Handle two skeletons, Shadow Bolt Volley and the attack-punishing Curse of Thorns.
Shade of the Archmage
Spread for Bounding Mana, keep ranged players beyond the short-range explosion, and prepare for Mass Polymorph when the boss runs out of mana. Line-of-sight can help with the polymorph, but dragging the boss out of the room resets the fight.
Quest and loot planning
Atrexis’s documented drops include Graveweave Bindings, Bonebinder Signet and Gravespike Repeater. Plan your quest pickups as well as boss kills: Arcane Mote and the faction collection objectives can require different branches. Use the linked source loot tables for individual boss drops rather than assuming every Classic item is available.
Open the faction quest checklist before departure.
After a wipe
If a resurrection-capable party member is alive, confirm whether they can recover the group before everyone releases. Otherwise return to the same entrance as a ghost, regroup and restore resources. Review the failed pull’s positioning and extra enemies before trying again.
